In a massive blow to the club’s hopes of a top four finish, The Times claim that scans on a thigh injury suffered by Adam Lallana whilst playing for England against Lithuania have shown that he will be out of action for at least a month. The news comes after Lallana picked up a groin injury on the last international break.

The midfielder will now miss games against Everton, Bournemouth, Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace in the Premier League in what is a crucial month for the push for a place in European football next season via a top four finish to ensure that the club are competing at the highest level.

Such a qualification could also provide a massive boost in the transfer market as The Times suggest that Jurgen Klopp will have the club’s biggest ever transfer budget this summer, which will likely see some strong additions to the squad as they look destined to face European competition of some sort next season.

The added fixtures and pressures of playing across Europe will mean that greater squad depth could be required as it has already been identified as one of the current squad’s major weaknesses this season even without such a distraction from another competition to deal with.

One such addition could be Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, who Dejan Lovren has revealed would be a superb addition to the Reds’ squad. The Express and the Daily Mail quote Lovren as telling Croatian newspaper Jutarnji:

“We players do not know anything about [transfers] until it happens. That’s always the case. But a player like Perisic moving to Liverpool would be great. He is a top quality player. At Liverpool, all the players would welcome him with open arms. Obviously I do not know if it is true. What I can say is that he has exceptional football skills, knowledge and a higher than average quality.”

Previously team-mates for the Croatian national team, the 28-year-old has been linked with a summer move to the club and could be considered given his ability to play on either flank in a front three. With nine goals and seven assists from 33 games this season, he could be a quality signing.
