In the aftermath of an appalling defeat to Leicester City on Monday night, Jurgen Klopp appeared to suggest that his future is at risk as he told the assembled media at the press conference that he is responsible. Metro quote Klopp as saying:
“It’s getting more serious now. We all play for our future, myself included. We get judged every day, especially on match days. Of course performances have influence on these things. I feel maximum responsible because I am. I hope I use the word ‘we’ and not ‘they’ because I’m involved in this.”
It seems highly unlikely that the German would be sacked by Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group, but with just two Premier League wins in 2017 it is clear that a turnaround is needed after a disappointing mid-season collapse since the turn of the calendar year.
One of the most important fixtures for fans in which three points are expected at the very least is the Merseyside Derby. Sadio Mane’s last gasp goal was decisive at Goodison Park in December and now the Liverpool Echo report that the fixture will be a Saturday lunchtime kick-off on April 1st.
The game is just one of four fixture changes in April for the Reds, with alterations to their visits to West Brom and Watford, and with the clash with Crystal Palace at Anfield being moved back to Sunday. The game against Watford will be the team’s only game left this season currently scheduled for Monday night football.
Off the field, the club have confirmed the appointment of Electronic Arts chief competitive officer Peter Moore as the next chief executive officer from the summer, when the 61-year-old will leave the video game giant.
An experienced businessman from Merseyside, Moore has previously worked for the likes of Reebok, Sega, and Microsoft after spending a few years as a physical education teacher.
