Liverpool round-up: Klopp reacts to Leicester humiliation; Van Dijk latest; Henderson injury blow

Last night was yet another disappointing result for Liverpool against a bottom half side as Jurgen Klopp hit out when speaking to the media post-match:

“It was not good enough in the beginning, not good enough in the middle and not good enough in the end. It was 100 per cent clear what happened here tonight from the Leicester side, back to their roots, the line-up was clear… I don’t think they are not as good as I thought they are, but I think they need my help more to show it every week. I said it a few times before, when we lose I feel maximum responsibility because I am [responsible].”

The German was clearly furious after an inept display in which a number of key players failed to live up to expectations as the Foxes outshone the Reds with interim boss Craig Shakespeare in charge.

Off the field there was bad news too, as any potential move for Virgil Van Dijk was seemingly ruled out as Southampton CEO Ralph Kreuger told TalkSPORT:

“Virgil is committed to us for a long time and we don’t see anything but that in our future. We will be sitting together in a few weeks to look at our summer transfer window and what the plans are. At the moment, Virgil is very committed to us. He is our team captain and we see him in our red and white stripes.”

The Saints may not have been victorious in the EFL Cup final on Sunday but they seem determined to retain as many of their key men as possible over the summer, including the Dutch central defender.

In yet more bad news, Jurgen Klopp also revealed in his post-match press conference that captain Jordan Henderson is unlikely to feature against Arsenal this weekend as he said:

“It looks like he will not be ready for Arsenal. That’s how it looks but I’m not sure, we will see.”

The midfielder is believed to be suffering from a heel injury and it is unlikely that the club will look to rush him back even after the poor result last night.
