With the season over and the summer window looming Premier League clubs will start to turn their attention to the transfer market, with a view to strengthening their respective sides ahead of the 2015/16 Premier League campaign. At The Boot Room, we are preparing to bring you all of the best opinion and analysis as the deals roll in.
In Sunday’s Liverpool transfer round-up: Jurgen Klopp is hoping to conclude a deal for a World Cup winning German before the end of the week; The Reds are rumoured to be targeting a highly-rated Leicester midfielder; and finally, the club are set to open talks for a 19-year-old defensive prospect.
First up: Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to sign Mario Gotze in a £20million deal this week, according to The Sun. Reports suggest the Europa League finalists are keen to get their transfer business done quickly and aim to tie up the Bayern Munich midfielder, who played under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, in the next few days.
Gotze’s close relationship with his former manager is reportedly key to a move to Anfield, just as a lack of game time is the driving force behind his move from Munich. The 23-year-old has been afforded just 957 minutes of league football this season, while being restricted to just one start in the Champions League. Despite this, he has still been on the scoresheet on five occasions.
The Sun continue to claim that Klopp views Gotze as a key figure in his plans to steer Liverpool back into the Champions League places. He would join a host of attacking talent at Anfield, with the likes of Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho likely to rival him for a starting role in the Reds’ line-up – there is no doubt he would be able to compete.
