The latest left-back to be linked with Liverpool is Hull City’s Andrew Robertson, according to the Guardian. However, they report that the Scottish defender has decided to delay a decision on whether to join Liverpool or Stoke until the end of the season when Hull’s status may be more clear.
The 22-year-old has recorded two assists in 26 games so far this campaign for the Tigers and featured alongside loanee Lazar Markovic against Arsenal in defeat at the Emirates at the weekend. Highly rated by many, Robertson also has two international goals to his name during his 11 caps.
More immediately, the Telegraph claim that the Liverpool squad held “clear the air talks” in midweek ahead of the game against Tottenham this weekend, where they finally put a stop to the rot which had seen them go without a win in 2017. Adam Lallana revealed:
“It was the team captain who got us together. He wanted it to happen. We knew as players we had to take responsibility. It was up to us to respond. The manager can say as much as he likes and tell us what he wants us to do and what attitude he wants us to have, but we have to do it. Credit to Jordan for calling the meeting, credit to everyone for participating and credit to everyone for performing. It wasn’t just him who spoke, the senior players spoke, the non-senior players, everyone. It was good, and refreshing.”
It is believed that it was Henderson, without the knowledge of manager Jurgen Klopp, who called the meeting amongst the first team squad after nearly two months of poor form.
The boosted morale could be further helped by a mid-season trip to La Manga in Spain as the Telegraph report that the first team will jet off for a ‘second pre-season’ in Spain. The club are believed to have approached the FA over the possibility of using St. George’s Park, but the facility is booked, so the squad will instead fly to Spain for a refreshed training period ahead of an intense final few months of the season.
