Liverpool round-up: Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele targeted; Porto’s Moussa Marega linked; Adam Lallana apologises

The Mirror claim that Jurgen Klopp is determined to see off competition from Barcelona for Borussia Dortmund sensation Ousmane Dembele as he is keen to bring in the 19-year-old to mould him into the perfect player to complement his Liverpool attack in the years ahead at Anfield.

With seven goals and 16 assists in 36 games this season, the Frenchman could present a very exciting option should he move to Merseyside, but he is being tracked by a number of Europe’s top clubs.

An alternative may be Porto striker Moussa Marega, say the Sun, currently on loan at Vitoria Guimaraes. The 25-year-old has scored 12 goals in 21 games this season which has attracted attention from Liverpool as well as Tottenham Hotspur, though his £35 million release clause could prove problematic.

Likened to Jamie Vardy in style, the Mali international is quick and powerful with a physical style of play which would represent the kind of option that the Reds do not currently have up-front, with Daniel Sturridge potentially leaving the club in the summer and Divock Origi struggling to find form of late.

Fans will hope that he could bring the kind of finishing that was not apparent at the Etihad on Sunday afternoon as Adam Lallana fired wide with a glaring miss, which he reflected on as the Liverpool Echo quote him as saying:

“My eyes lit up, I just thought to myself: ‘If I get some connection on this, it’ s a goal’, but it just took a bounce in front of me. I might have just taken my eyes off the ball for a second and got excited. Oh, I’m absolutely gutted. It could have proven to be the winner and it was a big moment in the game.

I’m so disappointed with it. Me being me, I went into the dressing room and said sorry to them all. That’s the way I felt. I put my hands up. To not hit the target, it was a chance I should have hit the target with and probably should have scored. I felt if we got the second, we would have put the game to bed.”

The midfielder has been in fine goalscoring form this season so it came as a surprise to see him miss, but the playmaker will now have his focus on his time with England as he joined the squad for international duty with fixtures against Germany and Lithuania in the next week.
