Liverpool round-up: Coutinho’s Barcelona links rubbished; PSG’s Lucas Moura linked; youngster discusses aims

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has told Sky Sports that rumours linking Philippe Coutinho with a move to Barcelona are nothing more than pure fabrication, as the Spaniard revealed:

“There are more stories coming out that Barcelona want Coutinho and he is willing to go. I have no doubt he is willing to go, but Barcelona are not after him. It’s just moves the agents are making to try to convince Barcelona to move for him. But they do not want him.”

The Brazilian forward spent a year in Barcelona playing for their city rivals Espanyol on loan from Inter Milan and is thought to be keen on a move, but Balague is clearly confident that such a move is unlikely to happen as the Catalan club are not quite so desperate to make the transfer happen.

If he does leave, a potential replacement could be his international team-mate Lucas Moura. French outlet Le10Sport, as well as the likes of the Express, who refer to complimentary reports in L’Équipe, say that the forward, whilst not put up for sale by Paris Saint-Germain, could be on the move in the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old has scored 17 goals and registered 11 assists in 51 games this season and could add real quality and depth to the Liverpool front line, regardless of the future of Coutinho, though it does remain to be seen if any deal would ever be possible or affordable for the Reds.

However, Jurgen Klopp has also made it clear that he will look to get the most out of any talented youngsters coming through the club’s academy, with Trent Alexander-Arnold just one of those. The young right-back has revealed his goals as he told the Daily Mail that he wants to follow in the footsteps of his hero, saying:

“The dream is to captain Liverpool. There will be goals to achieve along the way, but until I captain Liverpool I won’t be satisfied. It goes back to Steven Gerrard. He was my idol. I always wanted to be like him, so wearing that armband would mean a lot to me.”

The youngster has made his first team breakthrough under the German boss this season, making 12 appearances to date including his shock Premier League debut when he gave an assured performance at Old Trafford, and will be looking to build upon that next season and in the future.
