Spanish newspaper Sport have claimed that Philippe Coutinho is keen to make a move to Barcelona and has already given his approval to the switch, as the paper claimed in other reports that it would take a bid worth £75 million to persuade the Reds to part with their prized asset.
The Brazilian has long been linked with the Catalans due to his links to close friend Neymar and his spell in the city playing on loan for rivals Espanyol, and these latest reports would suggest that a move could be on the cards.
However, Coutinho showed no desire to leave as he collected the 5Times Player of the Year award from the former players’ association at the club in a ceremony this week. The Liverpool Echo quote him as saying:
“I just want to say thank-you to everyone. I am really proud to be voted for this award by Liverpool’s former players. I know they won a lot of things with this club and I hope that one day I can do the same.”
Such a statement does not show any kind of indication that the forward is looking to leave the club in the near future and would please Jurgen Klopp as he looks to build a side around his number 10.
Part of the team that he is looking to build could include Virgil Van Dijk as the Daily Star believe that Liverpool are still confident of achieving a £50 million transfer for the Dutchman, who is currently ruled out for the season with an ankle problem.
Saints manager Claude Puel has insisted that he will not be open to the idea of selling his defensive leader, but he would represent exactly the kind of quality at the back that the Reds have been crying out for this season.
