Liverpool could be beginning to look elsewhere for alternatives to defender Virgil Van Dijk as The Sport Review claim that a bid has been made for Lyon central defender Emmanuel Mammana. The 21-year-old left his native Argentina for Ligue 1 last summer amid interest from Arsenal and Tottenham and made 17 appearances in his debut season.
The Argentine would reportedly be paid as much as £54,000 per week on a five year contract, though talks over personal terms have not yet been held. With the offer currently only standing at £14.9 million, it may be the case that Mammana could be brought in alongside Van Dijk, or as an alternative.
Any move for a defender will be boosted by reports in Goal, which say that centre-back Mamadou Sakho has reached an agreement on personal terms with former loan club Crystal Palace. However, the Eagles are currently refusing to meet the £30 million asking price set for the Frenchman.
Liverpool so far seem determined to stick to their guns with their asking price for the former Paris Saint-Germain captain. That has not helped them to find a suitor early on in the transfer window but could still see a deal done for a lucrative amount of money to fuel signings of their own.

Another name to be linked with the club is Henrique Dalbert. French outlet Mercato 365 claim that the Reds could make a move for the 23-year-old, who has also been strongly linked with a move to Inter Milan. The Nice defender has earned plaudits for his lightening pace and good skill on the ball.
Dalbert would certainly offer a different option to James Milner on the left of defence, but he would not come cheap given that the reports suggest that the Ligue Un club would demand at least €30 million.
