Whilst his future remains unclear, Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb believe that if Philippe Coutinho does make a rumoured move to Barcelona, Liverpool could look to Athletic Bilbao winger Inaki Williams as a solution. Williams scored against the Reds in the recent pre-season game between the two teams.
Athletic Bilbao would be hugely reluctant to allow him to leave. However, the interest could be intense with Borussia Dortmund also linked if they lose Ousmane Dembele to Barcelona. A quick and skillful forward or winger, Williams would fit in well in Jurgen Klopp’s system.
First though, the club may have to fight off interest in another of their star men as Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport say that Juventus will continue their efforts to take Emre Can to Turin. The German midfielder is still yet to put pen to paper on a contract extension at Anfield.
Negotiations are reportedly ongoing, but these latest reports indicate that the Italian giants still have an active interest in the former Bayern Munich midfielder. That provides an added complication for Jurgen Klopp’s team as they seek to secure a commitment from the 23-year-old.
One man who is going nowhere is young forward Ben Woodburn. The Daily Mail say that Liverpool are set to reject a loan offer for the 17-year-old from Bundesliga side Hannover. Jurgen Klopp is keen to keep a close eye on his progress at Melwood and believes he could be an asset to the Liverpool squad.
Woodburn became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer when he found the net on his debut against Leeds United in the EFL Cup last season and has impressed in pre-season, most recently scoring against Athletic Bilbao. He has yet to head out on loan to any other club and it certainly seems unlikely now that he will be leaving anytime soon either.
