Liverpool have completed the signing of left-back Andrew Robertson from Hull City, the club have confirmed on their website. The Scottish international has signed a long term contract with the Reds and will now seek  make the left-back spot his own at Anfield.

He may be forced to compete with the experienced club vice-captain James Milner for the spot. The signing is expected to signal the end of Alberto Moreno’s spell on Merseyside. Given the quality of his performances as Hull were relegated last season, the 23-year-old could be a good addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

One key part of the squad is Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho, but the Daily Mail say that Barcelona have made a £72 million bid for Liverpool’s star man. The Reds are expected to reject the approach but with rumours over Neymar’s future in Spain, the interest from the Catalan club is unlikely to go away anytime soon.

Jurgen Klopp has insisted that the number ten is not for sale and will look to field off interest in Coutinho this summer. Much could depend on Neymar’s future but Coutinho may have to force a move if he does want to leave Liverpool this summer.

That is exactly what Liverpool target Virgil Van Dijk has done at Southampton. The dominant central defender has told manager and former Liverpool defender Mauricio Pellegrino that he wants to leave, as the Argentine boss revealed to the Southern Daily Echo:

“The boy said that he is not available to play because he wants to leave. This is the decision. I had to say ‘if you don’t want to be involved because you don’t feel OK then you have to train alone until this period of time happens’.

“The club was clear. The club told me they will not sell Virgil… Now he is not involved with the team because psychologically he is not 100 per cent. If you are not 100 per cent with the team I need to work with the players who are 1000 per cent to defend Southampton.”

The Reds were humiliated in their approach for the Dutch international earlier this summer but may now look to try again for the unsettled star.
