Liverpool target Nabil Fekir is still available
Having pulled out of a move at the last minute earlier on in the transfer window, Liverpool may still launch a swoop for Nabil Fekir as L’Equipe say that the playmaker remains on the market for £60 million, with France Football adding that Chelsea may make a late move.
The Reds seem unlikely to make any such move with not long left in the transfer window and the club having avoided making late signings in recent years, but they may equally fear the possibility of one of their top targets joining a rival in the Premier League.
Leon Bailey has revealed interest
Another potential signing is young Jamaican winger Leon Bailey, who has revealed that both Liverpool and, again, Chelsea, have shown an interest in bringing him to the Premier League this summer. The youngster appeared not to be desperate to make such a move though given his comments.
“There’s concrete interest. What I can say is that my full focus is on developing myself as a young player, and that’s what I’ll focus on. If a club wants me, my management and Bayer 04 will take care of it.”
Bailey confirmed Liverpool’s interest before adding his thoughts on the possible move, speaking to Kicker.
It seems unlikely that Liverpool’s interest was ever a serious one given the addition of Xherdan Shaqiri which adds a speedy option out wide in attack to join a squad which already boasts the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Phil Thompson suggests Harry Maguire signing
One area where the club have not strengthened this summer is in defence, though. Former captain and assistant manager Phil Thompson believes that it could prove to be a mistake and has suggested that the club should make a move for Leicester City’s Harry Maguire before the end of the the window.
“With one more centre-back, Liverpool can be a real force; I’d be looking at snatching Harry Maguire from under Manchester United’s noses.”
Such a move seems improbable, but the Reds have not made a defender a priority. With Dejan Lovren only just returning to training, the likes of Joe Gomez and Ragnar Klavan are likely to fill in alongside Virgil Van Dijk until the Croatian builds his fitness with Joel Matip also an injury doubt.
