Liverpool round-up: Deal agreed for defender; latest Keita bid rejected; Juventus make Can enquiry

Liverpool have agreed a £10 million deal for Hull City left-back Andrew Robertson, claims the Liverpool Echo. He could follow Mohamed Salah in becoming the club’s second major signing of the transfer window in what could prove to be a real bargain deal. The 23-year-old will undergo a medical on Thursday.

The Scottish international could now join the Liverpool squad when they return from their pre-season tour in Hong Kong. Robertson has been tipped as an excellent left-back with potential to improve even further. Now, he looks set to compete with James Milner for the left-back spot.

However, whilst one deal nears completion, another could be off the cards. The Times say that a £66 million bid for midfielder Naby Keita has been rejected by Red Bull Leipzig. The offer would have smashed Liverpool’s record fee and represented five times the price that the Bundesliga side paid to sign Keita last summer.

The 22-year-old has been the club’s top target this summer but they may now need to consider other targets. The club have been determined to secure the Guinean but this deal may have been overly ambitious for Liverpool as the Bundesliga outfit refuse to budge in their desire to hold on to their man.

That would only encourage Liverpool to reject interest from Juventus in midfielder Emre Can. Sky Italia report that the Serie A giants have made an enquiry into the German’s availability, as he enters into the final 12 months of his existing contract, but have been turned away by the Reds.

It is believed that the club are still in talks with Can over a new deal. The central midfielder is yet to return to pre-season training after featuring in the Confederations Cup for Germany but will soon join the squad in their preparations for the 2017/18 campaign.
