In concerning news for Liverpool fans, the Express claim that winger Sadio Mane could be subject to a £35 million bid from Inter Milan. The Senegal winger is back in action having been sidelined by a knee injury sustained in the Merseyside Derby in April. However, a bid for him has come as a surprise.
It seems highly unlikely that Jurgen Klopp would allow Mane to leave only a year after arriving from Southampton. Mane has rapidly established himself as a key player and was one of the best performers in his debut season in 2016/17. Inter may need to more than double their offer to even make Klopp consider an offer.
There has also been an update on the future of his team-mate Philippe Coutinho. That has come as Barcelona have reportedly had a €100 million (£89 million) offer for the Brazilian rejected by the Reds, Mohamed Bouhafsi, of RMC Sport in France, has claimed on Twitter.
The Reds clearly have no intention of selling, even for a fee which could be close to breaking Paul Pogba’s record fee last summer. If Paris Saint-Germain smash that to sign Neymar from the Camp Nou, they will spend more than double that fee and Barcelona would have cash to splash to possibly increase their bid further.
In a further blow to Liverpool’s hopes, German football expert Chris Williams tweeted to claim that Red Bull Leipzig are preparing to offer midfielder Naby Keita a new contract to remain in the Bundesliga. That offer is likely to remove a rumoured £48 million release clause which will come into play next summer.
That would make it harder for Liverpool to bring the 22-year-old to Merseyside. The news comes after Liverpool shelved their plans to sign him this summer after Leipzig rejected a number of bids that would have broken their own transfer record of £35 million set by the signing of Andy Carroll in 2011.
