Selling Roberto Firmino to Bayern Munich could help Liverpool land Timo Werner

Liverpool are 22 points clear at the top of the Premier League and the 2019/20 title race looks like being a foregone conclusion.

The Reds are still in the FA Cup and Champions League and with how they are playing the prospect of them winning the treble shouldn’t be ruled out.

Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment team may already have an eye on the summer transfer window. One or two stellar additions might be made and several players could leave the club.

It seems certain that the likes of Adam Lallana, Xherdan Shaqiri and Dejan Lovren will depart, with all three playing very little football this season.

The big question should Liverpool land a stellar signing is whether or not a big name might head for the exit.

Reports have claimed that Roberto Firmino could be the subject of interest from Bayern Munich. It is thought that the Bavarians are preparing a £75 million swoop on Liverpool for the Brazilian.

Ironically, Firmino heading to Bayern could help the Reds land a massive summer deal.

Timo Werner has been linked with a move to Liverpool (Bild), with Bayern also keen on the RB Leipzig striker.

Bayern won’t land both strikers and Liverpool allowing Firmino to head out could clear the path for them to sign the German international.

The 28-year-old has been a good servant at Anfield. Since arriving in 2015, the £180,000-a-week star (Spotrac) has scored 76 goals and registered 59 assists.

This season he has scored just 10 goals, however, claiming 12 assists. His work rate is his biggest attribute, with him suiting the deep-lying forward role down to the ground.

Progression

Although the current Liverpool team is special, it is vital they move with the times.

Werner has stated to Bild previously that his preferred destination is Anfield and if that is the case they simply have to pounce.

Firmino has a contract until 2023 but a concrete bid from Bayern could make see them tempted into a sale.

The international is having a tremendous season with Leipzig, scoring 25 goals in 30 appearances and he’d surely be a hit in the Premier League.

It will be a sad departure should Klopp decide to let Firmino go but from a business sense, it looks like a good deal.

If Liverpool can get Firmino out and Werner in very few fans will be disappointed and the German’s arrival could arguably give the Reds a better chance of adding more Premier League titles in the years to come.
