'It's crazy': Rio Ferdinand says one Liverpool player has blown him away, didn't expect it
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been praised by Rio Ferdinand, who admits the Reds forward far exceeded his expectations.
The 29-year-old has been superb throughout his time at Anfield, including last season when other players suffered downturns in form.
Salah has made 214 appearances for Liverpool, registering 137 goals and 51 assists – but this season, he’s been on another level.
The Egypt international has a staggering 12 goals and four assists from just 11 appearances in all competitions.
Salah has also scored some absolutely world class goals, carving open the Manchester City and Watford defences all on his own.
And on Tuesday, the Liverpool star scored twice to help Jurgen Klopp’s charges run out 3-2 winners at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
On Wednesday, Ferdinand spoke about Salah on his YouTube channel alongside Fabrizio Romano, Joel Beya and Stephen Howson.
“It’s crazy because I watched him in Italy, even when he signed for Liverpool, there’s not one part of me that thought this guy could have been one of the best players in the world,” said the Manchester United legend.
“People now are consistently saying that he’s in-form the best player in the world right now, Messi and Ronaldo included.
“The way he’s scoring goals, creating chances, the whole way he’s playing, he looks like he’s in complete control of every situation he’s faced with at the moment.
“You don’t get many spells in your career like that, but Salah is in the midst of that right here and now.”
Liverpool go up against Manchester United on Sunday in a 4:30pm kickoff at Old Trafford.
