Liverpool are one of the clubs eyeing a move to sign Atletico Madrid player Saul Niguez. Los Rojiblancos are considering offloading their title-winning star and the Premier League outfit are keen.

The Spanish midfielder could be available this summer for around £50 million. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Reds are firmly in the picture to sign him.

Niguez is something of a stalwart to Atletico. He has made 337 appearances for the club, scoring 43 goals and claiming 19 assists.

Liverpool will be in the market for a midfielder this summer. Gini Wijnaldum ended his association with the club this summer, signing for PSG on a free transfer.

At 26, the Atletico man fits the profile of a player who does seem to match Liverpool’s recruitment strategy. He is yet to reach his prime but already has bags of experience.

If Liverpool could do a deal, he would certainly help the club get over the disappointment of not being able to keep Wijnaldum.

What would Saul Niguez bring to Liverpool?

He’d bring lots of games and a wealth of experience, although he can also play too.

Niguez has been a La Liga star and last season helped Atletico claim another La Liga title at the expense of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

He boats a strong passing radar, works hard around the pitch and is also intelligent in possession of the ball.

Niguez might not be the most glamorous option for the Reds, but he could prove to be a pretty shrewd addition.

What have they said about Niguez?

Diego Simeone has previously called him a complete midfielder (Marca) and that is about right.

He is comfortable around both boxes and his energy levels would see him fit nicely in the Liverpool set-up under Klopp.

Niguez might not be everyone’s first choice but ultimately he’d be a smart signing and he certainly has the game to be a Premier League hit.

The Atletico man is well versed in a big game environment and fans should be seriously excited if he does arrive at Anfield.
