Liverpool are reportedly considering a move to sign Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer, after a stunning season with the Championship leaders under Marcelo Bielsa – and ex-Reds star Danny Murphy is a huge fan.
Bleacher Report claim that 24-year-old Phillips has been identified as a possible summer addition for the Reds, along with RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner and Norwich City playmaker Todd Cantwell.
Phillips, nicknamed the Yorkshire Pirlo, is a fan favourite among Leeds supporters. Since breaking into the senior side as a teenager, Phillips has gone on to clock up an enormous 175 appearances for the Whites.
Last summer, Phillips was linked with a £30million move to Aston Villa – as per The Sun – but he has remained at Elland Road. Despite staying in the Championship, he has continued to enhance his reputation and Murphy is a big fan of the midfielder.

“He’s a terrific player, I first saw him 18 months ago when he first stood out in a game and I thought ‘keep an eye on him’. I always look at midfielder, it’s a natural thing,” Murphy told talkSPORT in January, as quoted by Leeds Live.
“In that holding role, you have to be really cute and clever, Carrick was one of the best at it. If Leeds were to mess up and not go up, I think he’ll be a Premier League player next season. Someone will take him for sure.”
TBR’s view – Do Liverpool need Phillips?
Fabinho is clearly Liverpool’s best holding midfielder and is certainly excellent in the role, despite struggling for form since returning from injury of late. Captain Jordan Henderson is also very good in the role.
James Milner has played there, while Adam Lallana and Pedro Chirivella can also be used in that role – but both are expected to leave the club in the summer as their contracts expire. Henderson is used further forward, while Milner is ageing.
Bringing Phillips to Anfield would provide Klopp with excellent cover – and Murphy is totally right.
