Liverpool are reportedly looking at Hull City goalkeeper David Marshall. The 34-year-old Scotland international is reportedly being eyed up as a replacement for Simon Mignolet. The Sun is suggesting the Belgian could be ready to leave Anfield and that Marshall is a potential back-up for Alisson option.

In some respect, it may seem like a shock target. However, if Liverpool do need a new back-up option, Marshall has plenty of Premier League and international experience.

It will also sound a bit like deja-vu to some Liverpool fans.

It was way back in 2014 that Brendan Rodgers was keen on bringing the Scotsman to Anfield, according to Metro. It came just after his season with Cardiff City in the Premier League, in which he earned rave reviews.

Mignolet had been struggling for consistent form and Liverpool clearly felt that Marshall could be the man to get the best out the Scottish international.

The report suggested a £6 million bid was incoming for the player.

Back then, the hope would have been for Marshall to battle for the Liverpool number one spot. That seems unlikely now, with Alisson one of the best in the world game.

However, five years after the previous interest, Liverpool would be bringing in a top back-up option if they went for Marshall again this summer.
