Liverpool reportedly want £75k-a-week ace who Kenny Dalglish has deemed a 'very good' player

Liverpool are reportedly eyeing Scotland international John McGinn.

According to The Athletic, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the Aston Villa midfielder.

The Liverpool boss was apparently so impressed with McGinn’s display in the Reds‘ 7-2 defeat that he asked Andrew Robertson about him.

Admittedly, The Athletic acknowledges that McGinn would be hard to get.

Their report says “bidding would have to start at £45million to £50million” for Villa to entertain the thought of him leaving.

However, they note that Liverpool’s interest in the £75,000-a-week maestro is “very real”.

Liverpool could be eyeing a tireless player

Liverpool lost midfield lynchpin Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Therefore, the Reds have a gap in their squad which needs replacing.

McGinn is a tireless player who rarely finds himself on the sidelines.

Last season, he made 37 Premier League starts, playing the full 90 minutes in each of those.

“Doing brilliantly”

Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has previously sung McGinn’s praises.

“Callum McGregor and John McGinn are very good in the middle of the park,” he wrote in the Sunday Post in October 2018.

And in 2019, he praised the Villa ace in the Daily Record.

“John McGinn’s doing brilliantly at Aston Villa as well,” he wrote (page 50, 12/11/19).

“He’s come into the Premier League this season and done very well.”
