Liverpool reportedly want £45m-rated ace that Benitez predicted to shine in 2012

Liverpool are reportedly one of two clubs that Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara could join this summer as he looks set to leave the German champions – and Rafa Benitez’s prediction back in 2012 is certainly ringing true.

Thiago, 29, is set to enter the final 12 months of his contract at Bayern. Despite clocking up a whopping 230 appearances in all competitions for the German champions since joining in 2013, he could now be about to leave.

German newspaper Bild claim that the 37-time Spain international is on the shortlist of both Liverpool and Barcelona this summer, with Thiago seemingly open to a move. Spox claim he is rated at £45million.

Having rejected a contract extension at Bayern as per Bild, it is fair to say Liverpool have a strong chance of signing Thiago. Liverpool icon Benitez predicted big things from Thiago back in 2012 – when he was just 21 years of age.

“The next generations of Spanish players have seen what was achieved in Kiev [Euro 2012 final] on Sunday night and are now waiting and hoping for their chance to bring triumph back to the country,” Benitez told the Independent.

“Look out especially for Thiago Alcantara and his brother Rafa, adoptive Spaniards who are both at Barcelona. They are the sons of Mazinho, who you might remember from the Brazil team that won the 1994 World Cup in the US.”

TBR’s view – Would Thiago be a good signing for Liverpool?

Without a doubt. The midfielder should be regarded as one of the best central midfielders in world football and even at Bayern, he is somewhat underrated. A move to Liverpool would take the Reds to the next level.

Combative when he needs to be, but boasting a stunning array of passing combined with the technical abilities of a winger – Thiago really does have it all. He is even able to chip in with a few goals.

At £45million, Liverpool would be landing themselves a bargain.
