Liverpool are reportedly in talks to bring Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele to the club this summer though the Spanish side are keen to sell him permanently – and Thiago’s recent comments will have Reds fans excited.
Thiago, 29, is set to be confirmed as Liverpool’s latest signing after the midfielder confirmed he had left Bayern Munich – following weeks of reports suggesting that Thiago wants to move to Anfield. He had entered the final 12 months of his contract.
Now, Thiago could be joined by 2018 World Cup winner Dembele. Spanish newspaper SPORT have claimed that Liverpool have contacted Barcelona in the last few hours over a loan move for Dembele, though Barca would rather a permanent exit.
A previous SPORT report this summer has claimed Barcelona would sanction Dembele’s exit for a fee of £37million. Back in the summer of 2019, Dembele was linked with Bayern and Thiago described him as a “great player” to Bild.
“Dembele is a great player,” Thiago told Bild . “But I am not the sporting director who decides if a player will be bought or not. As a football player and one who played against him I can say: ‘He is a very good footballer’.”

TBR’s view – Would Dembele start for Liverpool?
To begin with, certainly not. Though he has returned to full fitness, Dembele only played nine times last season due to a long-term hamstring issue and he needs to be used sparingly in order to regain his match fitness.
But once at his best, he is on a par with both Mo Salah and Sadio Mane and it will be interesting to see that if he does join Liverpool and one of either Salah or Mane drops off in terms of form – then Dembele would surely come straight in.
