Liverpool reportedly eyeing ‘affordable’ centre-back who recently ‘destroyed’ Neymar and Mbappe

Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Ibrahima Konate, according to Bild journalist Christian Falk.

The 21-year-old defender is highly rated, having already made 83 competitive appearances for RB Leipzig, including 20 in the Champions League and Europa League.

In addition, Konate has also won 11 caps for France’s Under-21s, captaining Les Bleuets in their 3-1 win over Czech Republic U21s in September.

Liverpool are in desperate need of reinforcements in central defence after losing both Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk to long-term injuries this season.

With the January transfer window coming up, the Reds are expected to delve into the market.

Although the Premier League champions have been linked with Dayot Upamecano, Falk believes his teammate is also on the Anfield side’s radar.

“Upamecano is at the top of the list of many top clubs and of course that includes Liverpool,” he told Bild.

“Bayern Munich are also an option, but it’s going to be hard to go that way, so they look at other players.

“They do not even look that far, just to the side of Upmecano at his teammate (Konate).

“They (Liverpool) have become aware of the value of his contract, which runs until 2023, and he would be financially affordable for Liverpool.

“He is also very, very interesting in terms of playing style, which is similar, so they could be one of the teams to take him to the island.”

Konate would be a great shout for Liverpool, a young, talented, physically imposing and experienced centre-back who could slot into the starting XI right away.

The Reds aren’t the only side linked with Konate, however – Arsenal have recently been linked with his services.

And what some Gunners fans said about the player’s display against PSG in the Champions League last week will certainly be of interest to Reds fans too:
