Liverpool are keen to rival Juventus for the signing of West Bromwich Albion youngster Rekeem Harper, according to The Mirror.
The 19-year-old is out of contract at The Hawthorns this summer, with Tottenham also courting his signature too.
Harper has failed to reach an agreement over a new contract with the Championship side, with the Baggies just likely to receive a small sum of compensation if he departs.
The West Brom academy graduate played 16 times in the league last season, helping the club into the Championship play-offs.
New boss Slaven Bilic is keen to keep Harper, but he may be powerless now that Liverpool and Juventus have emerged as potential suitors.
The Reds, in particular, could prove hard to turn down. The Champions of Europe and club on an upward trajectory and Harper may well fancy a crack at the Premier League with a giant of a club.
Harper represents an interesting link for those of a Liverpool persuasion.
The midfielder is capable of playing a number of different roles in the middle of the park and that sort of versatility must be an attraction to Jurgen Klopp.
Harper has highlighted energy, strength and strong ball retention abilities with the Albion, although he would probably be viewed as one of for the future at Anfield.
It doesn’t seem likely that he will feature from the off.
Liverpool’s midfield is already well-stocked and Harper may have to wait patiently for his chance to impress.
Signing him now is a no-brainer, however. With his contract situation up in the air, it makes perfect sense for Liverpool to pounce.
Harper has the ability to be a multi-million pound player at some point during his career. Liverpool will want to tie him down now for next to nothing whilst they can.
