Liverpool reject Barcelona’s £118m Coutinho bid – Twitter reacts

Liverpool have rejected a bid worth £118 million for attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho, The Times journalist Paul Joyce has claimed on Twitter.

The Brazilian has submitted a formal transfer request to the Anfield club but the Reds remain insistent that Coutinho will not be sold this summer.

His transfer request came in stunning fashion, being submitted a day before the start of the Premier League season. Now, one week on, Barcelona have made an improved offer only 24 hours before Liverpool face Crystal Palace at Anfield in their first home game of the season.

The attacking midfielder is currently sidelined by what is reportedly a back injury. Some fans have had their doubts but Jurgen Klopp has insisted that his attitude has been good and the medical team have no complaints with his progress.

Having rejected such a substantial bid from Barcelona, it remains to be seen how the La Liga giants will react. The fact that Liverpool have rejected the offer almost imminently would suggest that they have not even entertained what would be a record fee for a Premier League player.

As such, the Catalans may be forced to consider alternatives, such as Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele. Liverpool are determined to hold onto their man and will do all it takes to keep their number ten.

It may take a huge fee for Barcelona to persuade the Reds that Coutinho is worth selling before the transfer deadline which is now only two weeks away with the season already in progress.
