Liverpool are not planning on another bumper spending spree this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Reds went big last summer, bringing in Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson on top of bringing in Virgil van Dijk the previous January.
But the report claims that there will be no repeat this time around. Jurgen Klopp said last week: “For sure there’s no need for that level [of investment]. I don’t think this is a team where we have to spend the big money.
“The best way to do it is bring together a group of players, try to develop them altogether and then stay together for a while. That was maybe the main problem of Liverpool for the last decade. When they had a good team after a season they went all over the world. That will not happen this year for sure.”

Liverpool have had another great season, but some individual players have not hit the heights. Perhaps the biggest disappointment has been Keita – who earns £120,000 a week as per Spotrac, who has flickered into life at times but has not elevated Liverpool’s midfield to the level expected.
The likes of Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren have all underwhelmed – all a throwback to the Brendan Rodgers era and obviously upgradable.
But the net spend required to do so, and push Liverpool’s squad into Manchester City territory where they have PFA Player of the Year winners and Brazil’s starting World Cup striker in reserve would be extremely high.
So Klopp’s frugality may see some Reds handed a second chance, and Keita will perhaps be the most relieved to get another season to show the Anfield faithful what he can truly do.
