Journalist says Liverpool really like Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge
Liverpool have had a shocking start to the new season.
Everyone expected Jurgen Klopp’s side to challenge Manchester City for the title again, but the Reds have won just six of their first 14 Premier League games and are already 15 points behind league leaders Arsenal.
One of their biggest issues, according to many fans, pundits and the media, is their midfield. Many are of the opinion that the Reds are in desperate need of a new man in the middle of the park, and they’ve been linked with plenty of players already.
Berge’s name is back out of the rumour mill now, and Jones has claimed that Liverpool have been keeping an eye on his injury situation. He further says that there’s absolutely no doubt that the Reds like him.
Speaking about the 6tf 5in Sheffield United midfielder, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “They kind of waited to see what his reaction to the injury would be, make sure he responded well to it, make sure there were no repercussions and see if he could get his form back.
“So, it will be interesting to see now whether they do rekindle their interest firmly in him because there’s absolutely no doubt they like this player.”
Berge dreams of playing at Anfield regularly
When Berge was still in Belgium playing for Genk, he was heavily linked with a move to join Liverpool.
The talented Norwegian got a chance to face the Reds in the Champions League, and he caught everyone’s attention with impressive performances home and away.
His display at Anfield, however, is what made people stand up and take notice, but it’s what he said after the game that fueled all the rumours surrounding his future at the time.
“Playing at Anfield is a dream for everyone in the world, and not least for Norwegians. Liverpool are the best team [at the moment] and have the most fans,” Berge said, as quoted by HITC.
“So I could certainly like to play at Anfield as often as possible.”
