Liverpool return to Premier League action at Anfield today hoping to make it four wins in a row in all competitions.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have put the defeat to Aston Villa behind them to triumph against Ajax, Sheffield United and Midtjylland ahead of today’s meeting with West Ham.
However, Liverpool are currently in the midst of a central defensive crisis, with Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho injured, plus Joel Matip still a doubt.
Although Rhys Williams did well in the midweek Champions League clash, Klopp hinted ahead of the match that he could deploy a senior player at central defence.
“We have still, obviously, other options like (Henderson) or (Wijnaldum) or (Milner) – or (Robertson) can play centre-half as well,” he is quoted by Goal.com as saying.
Given Henderson’s versatility, experience in a defensive role and leadership skills, we predict Klopp will opt for the £140,000-a-week ace alongside Gomez in central defence.
Fit-again Alisson Becker is likely to be in goal, while Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold should be in the full-back positions.
Should Henderson go in defence, Klopp could opt for Thiago Alcantara in the middle, with Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner either side of him.
Despite Roberto Firmino’s form still being patchy, the attack still picks itself, with the 29-year-old back in alongside Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
Although £41million summer signing Diogo Jota has impressed, he’ll likely have to make do with a spot on the bench today.
