Liverpool take on Manchester City this afternoon looking to resurrect their flailing title defence.

The Citizens could lay one hand on the title if they claim a win at Anfield and this afternoon’s game promises to be a classic.

The reigning champions desperately need a strong performance after their defeat to Brighton on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp hopes to have some players back for this afternoon’s clash and that could prove decisive.

Ahead of today’s game, we looked at who could play for Liverpool this afternoon.

In goal and back four

Alisson is back in training and should return in place of Caoimhin Kelleher.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson should both continue in their respective full-back roles.

There could be a change at centre-back as Fabinho returned to training on Friday.

The £100,000-a-week player could partner Ozan Kabak at the heart of the back four, with Nat Phillips missing out.

Ben Davies will also be in contention to make his first start for Liverpool.

Midfield

The return of Fabinho could allow Jordan Henderson to return to the midfield engine room.

His absence in the middle of the park has been telling and Klopp will surely relish the chance to have his captain back in his natural habitat.

Thiago Alcantara will probably play alongside him, with Gini Wijnaldum also likely to keep his place.

In attack

Sadio Mane trained ahead of the game and if he is fit to play it would be a big boost for Liverpool.

The attack loses something when he doesn’t feature and having him back will be most welcomed.

Alongside him, there doesn’t seem like any reason to be chopping and changing so expect Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino to both keep their places.
