Liverpool team news v Everton

Liverpool will be without Joe Gomez, who is out with a leg issue not long after returning from a hamstring injury , while Tyler Morton is still recovering from a shoulder issue.

However, Trent Alexander-Arnold could return for the Reds after missing two games due to injury.

Meanwhile, Vitalii Mykolenko could return for Everton, although Nathan Patterson, Seamus Coleman and Dwight McNeil remain unavailable through injury.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti are also ruled out for the Merseyside derby, but there could be a first start for January signing Carlos Alcaraz.

Everton fans have been calling for Alcaraz to start against Liverpool but Toffees boss David Moyes has refused to confirm whether Alcaraz will indeed start.

Luis Diaz likely to be dropped as Conor Bradley tipped to start at Everton

The stakes are very high for Liverpool – not only are bragging rights at stake, but defeat for the Reds could hand a psychological boost Arsenal in their pursuit of the title.

With that in mind, Slot is set to go for his strongest possible line-up, which is likely to see Alisson Becker replacing Caoimhin Kelleher in goal to begin with.

Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are set to return at centre-back, while Andrew Robertson is likely to return after being omitted from the Plymouth matchday squad.

Although Alexander-Arnold could be back, Slot is unlikely to risk him and will likely name Conor Bradley at right-back, given he did not start against Plymouth.

Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister are expected to return to the midfield, with Dominik Szoboszlai likely to also feature in the central three.

As for the front line, Darwin Nunez is likely to lead the line, with Mohamed Salah and Liverpool’s Player of the Month Cody Gakpo either side of him.

Luis Diaz is likely to drop to the bench in wake of the £50million man started in the weekend cup trip to Home Park.
