Liverpool, boosted from their morale-boosting midweek Champions League victory, will hope to return to form in the Premier League too as they prepare for a late Saturday kickoff.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have picked up just one point from their last two top-flight games, as well as conceding nine goals.
Worse still, Liverpool will be without Virgil van Dijk for the foreseeable future, the Dutchman having suffered an ACL injury in the Merseyside derby last week.
At his pre-match press conference ahead of the Sheffield United match, Klopp confirmed that Van Dijk, Alex-Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kostas Tsimikas are absentees.
However, he did not rule out involvement for Thiago Alcantara, Alisson Becker or Joel Matip, and will check on their fitness ahead of kickoff.
With that in mind, who could feature for Liverpool at Anfield tonight?
Although Alisson looks to be nearing a return to action, the Blades game is probably too soon for him, so Adrian is likely to remain in between the sticks.
Matip is more likely to come back in, with Klopp saying before the Ajax game that there was a “good chance he could be involved” at the weekend.
The £100,000-a-week ace would rejoin Joe Gomez, Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the back four, enabling Fabinho to move back up to midfield.
Captain Jordan Henderson was a doubt for the midweek clash but came on as a substitute at half-time and appeared to come through unscathed, so the 30-year-old is likely to also return.
As for the third midfielder, Georginio Wijnaldum’s impressive display in Amsterdam means Klopp could keep him in the XI rather than rush Thiago back.
Although Diogo Jota staked a claim for a starting berth in midweek while Roberto Firmino once again struggled, we predict no change in the front three.
