The Liverpool Echo are reporting on claims that Liverpool may be targeting Leicester City’s Premier League winning goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as a potential first choice in the net for the Reds, after criticism of Loris Karius in recent weeks. The Dane was an instrumental part of his team’s superb defensive record last season.
Whilst there is no indication that the son of the former Manchester United goalkeeper is looking for a move, he may be interested if it would allow him to continue playing in the Champions League with it looking unlikely that the Foxes will retain their place next campaign.
Jurgen Klopp spoke after yesterday’s impressive Merseyside Derby victory to praise his team, with Sadio Mane’s late injury time strike giving the team the three points. The German said:
“We need to learn, and that’s what I really loved tonight, that we did it so much better in the second half, that’s really important. You need to fight for every single ball and we did too. Great, intense, how a derby should be, not the best football in the world of course but you cant ignore the intensity and importance of a game like this. You have to take it like it is, second half, we took it like it should be. We were a clear better team today, but does not mean we have to win.”
After a slow and dull affair, the Red half of Merseyside picked things up after the half-time break and did enough to earn the victory with Sadio Mane firing home.
Ragnar Klavan was one of the best performers for Klopp, but Metro believe that Dejan Lovren may have hinted that Southampton captain Jose Fonte could be on his way to Anfield as he replied to his comment on Instagram saying “hope to see u soon u know where ;)”.
The pair formed a strong defensive partnership at St. Mary’s before Lovren moved to Liverpool and it may now see them reunited if there is more to this statement than meets the eye.
