Adam Lallana has confirmed his excitement on Instagram after completing a free transfer to Brighton from Liverpool on Monday – prompting reaction from Jamie Redknapp, Emre Can and his former Liverpool teammates.

Lallana, 32, saw his contract at Anfield expire on June 30 but he agreed to extend his stay with Liverpool and join in the celebrations as the Reds finally ended their 30-year wait to once again become champions of England.

The midfielder joined Liverpool way back in 2014 and has since clocked up 178 games for the Reds – scoring 22 and creating 22. Now, he has returned to the south coast, after previously playing for Bournemouth and Southampton.

Penning a three-year deal with Graham Potter’s exciting, ball-playing Brighton, Lallana confirmed his delight on Instagram – as he held aloft the number 14 shirt. He is Brighton’s second signing after Jenson Weir from Wigan.

Brighton finished in a respectable position 15th place and seven points above the relegation zone – despite a complete change in approach that saw the Seagulls go from a defensive style under Chris Hughton to expansive under Potter.

Plenty of Liverpool players responded including close friend and Reds captain Jordan Henderson who applauded his number choice – the same Henderson has at Liverpool. James Milner, Trent Alexander-Arnold and others replied.

Redknapp, who is also from the south coast, applauded his decision to return while ex-Reds teammate and now Borussia Dortmund midfielder Can also responded.
