Liverpool player who Jurgen Klopp described as ‘special’ agrees deadline day transfer

Liverpool’s deadline day has predominantly been centered around outgoings as Arne Slot looks to fine-tune his squad.

Hull City and Middlesbrough are looking to sign Ben Doak on loan in the coming hours, with the Scottish attacker falling further down the pecking order after Federico Chiesa’s arrival.

Defender Nat Phillips is seeking an exit before the deadline and is believed to be close to agreeing a loan move to Derby County in search of regular game time.

And now, if reports are to be believed, another player on the fringes of the Liverpool squad has agreed terms on a transfer.

According to James Pearce of The Athletic, Kaide Gordon has agreed to join Norwich City on a one-year loan deal.

Arne Slot wants the 19-year-old to get minutes aplenty this season to get his career back on track, with the attacker coming on the back of two difficult seasons owing to injuries.

Jurgen Klopp hailed Gordon as a special player after he scored in Liverpool’s 4-1 win against Shrewsbury Town in 2021, becoming the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer in the competition aged just 17 years and 96 days.

However, since then, the youngster has endured a turbulent spell with injuries and made just three appearances for the club last season.

Norwich a good move for Gordon

Norwich finished sixth in the Championship last season and lost out to Leeds United in the playoffs.

They’ll look to be there once again and Gordon can make a massive impression with his technique and shooting ability under new manager Johannes Hoff Thorup.

Getting regular game time for a promotion-chasing side could do him a world of good and Liverpool will hope the 19-year-old can get into the groove at Carrow Road.

Slot has a fantastic record with coaching youngsters and if Gordon returns to Liverpool on the back of a fine showing for Norwich, he could well be in the Reds’ first-team squad next season if he enjoys a good pre-season.
