Liverpool player ratings: How the Reds fared in their away win over Watford?

Add as preferred source on Google

Liverpool took the three points on Monday night as they beat a determined Watford team to consolidate their position in the top four.

Their destiny is now in their own hands and it would be a great achievement for the club if they were to finish in the Champions League places.

It wasn’t a classic Reds’ performance on Monday, but they got the job done thanks to a piece of incredible individual skill from Emre Can.

The German international scored an overhead kick, which turned out to be the only goal of the night.

Here is how Jurgen Klopp’s side rated at Vicarage Road…

Simon Mignolet – The goalkeeper commanded his area well and made six claims during the match. This has been one of the weaker parts of his game and he has clearly been working on it. He also made one great save from Etienne Capoue. 7

Nathaniel Clyne – It was a solid full-back display from the England international. He completed three tackles during the match and offered good attacking support down the right-hand side. 7

Joel Matip – The 25-year-old won four aerial duels and dealt with the Watford aerial threat well. He was composed on the ball and looked assured in everything that he did. 7

Dejan Lovren – Like Matip, he dominated in the air with seven successful aerial duels. He has become more consistent under Jurgen Klopp and has formed a good partnership with Matip. 7

James Milner – The English international made four ball recoveries and did well in attack, offering good support down the left wing. His delivery was lacking at times, but he played his part in the win. 6

Lucas Leiva – The Brazilian has done excellently since coming into the midfield and has given Jurgen Klopp something to think about ahead of the summer. He completed six ball recoveries and supplied an excellent ball to supply the goal. 7

Gini Wijnaldum – It was another consistent midfield performance from the Dutchman. He worked hard and pressed well. His attacking play wasn’t at its best, but he provided a good option in transition and made one key pass. 6

Emre Can – The German international scored the only goal with an excellent overhead kick. It was an excellent piece of individual skill and he delivered a good performance overall, with some purposeful driving runs. 8

Roberto Firmino – It was a quiet performance from the Brazilian as he didn’t really impose himself on the game. He isn’t completely suited to playing out wide and he was kept quiet, but he did manage to make two key passes. 6

Divock Origi – The Belgian showed flashes of his intelligent movement and had a good chance to score during the second half, but he failed to find the back of the net. He is clearly preferred to Daniel Sturridge, but he will have to show more before the end of the season if he is to still have a big role to play next season. 6

Philippe Coutinho – It would be unfair to rate the Brazilian as he was taken off early after suffering a dead leg. N/A

Adam Lallana – It was great to see the 28-year-old back and he caused problems with his runs in the final third. He came close to opening the scoring with a spectacular strike from distance that crashed off the bar. 7

Daniel Sturridge – The England international looks rusty, but he did nearly score after coming on. His long term future with the club will be called into question as he doesn’t seem to be in Jurgen Klopp’s plans. 5

Ragnar Klavan – He was brought on to help see out the win, but he wasn’t on long enough to be rated. N/A
