Liverpool plan to offer two stars fresh deals as Andy Robertson situation revealed

TBR Football understands that Liverpool have no immediate plans to tie down vice captain Andy Robertson to a fresh contract.

Arne Slot appointed the 31-year-old as his vice captain this season following the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid.

The £40 million arrival of Milos Kerkez has seen the Scotland international lose his starting berth at Anfield at the beginning of the campaign although he has impressed in his last two outings.

However, sources have informed TBR Football that although Robertson’s contract will expire in 2026, the full-back is not at the top of the list of priorities for new contracts that will be addressed in the coming months.

TBR Football exclusively revealed that talks are underway for Michael Edwards to extend his stay with FSG with the CEO of football then tasked to tie down Slot and Richard Hughes to new deals.

Exclusive: Liverpool will prioritise new contracts for Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch

According to TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, the Reds will prioritise new deals for midfield duo Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch before later assessing whether to enter negotiations with Robertson’s camp.

Bailey states: “I don’t think there are any plans at the moment. When it comes to Liverpool contracts, I think Curtis Jones will be sorted pretty soon.

“Ryan Gravenberch will be the next cab off the rank after that. They know they’ve got a potential world-class player on their hands. Previously, they’d been linked with the likes of Caicedo and others, but in Gravenberch, they believe they’ve got someone who, for his age, can hold a candle to anyone in world football. He’ll be dealt with very soon, too.

“As for Robertson, that will be assessed later. I think that’s something that will be looked at after the season plays out, and Robertson will accept that. We’ll probably hear more about that in the new year.

“So, in terms of contracts, Jones and Gravenberch will be the next big deals Liverpool really commit to.”

Gravenberch is playing his best football at Anfield this season, and with the Dutchman’s current deal running until 2028, Liverpool are eager to tie down the midfielder and avoid yet another contract saga.

As revealed by TBR Football in June, Robertson was tempted by Atletico Madrid when the La Liga outfit named the Scotsman as their priority target at the beginning of the summer.

However, Robertson made the executive decision with his family that remaining on Merseyside was the best outcome and has since started two of the Reds’ last three outings.

Kerkez’s first-half substitution against Burnley has given the vice captain an opportunity to reclaim his spot as the starting left-back for Slot, as he has not put a foot out of place since his return.

Liverpool are attempting to tie down Ibrahima Konate

TBR Football revealed Liverpool continued negotiations with Ibrahima Konate regarding extending his contract at Anfield during the international break.

The Frenchman, alongside Robertson, could leave the Reds at the end of the campaign, but the club are eager to avoid the same situation as seen with Trent last season.

Following the collapse of the deadline day deal for Marc Guehi, Konate has rediscovered his best form for Liverpool after a disastrous start to the campaign.

He was a mainstay throughout Slot’s title-winning debut season, and the Reds are believed to be eager to reach a compromise with his entourage after nearly reaching an agreement on terms in December.
