Liverpool could make a sentimental move to bring Pepe Reina back to Anfield this summer, should Simon Mignolet depart for pastures new, according to Goal.
The Daily Mail believes that the Belgian will depart during the transfer window with Bournemouth, Norwich and Watford interested in the £15 million-rated player.
His departure will see the Reds need an understudy for Alisson Becker and Reina is one of the names in the mix.
The 36-year-old would need no introduction to the Anfield faithful. He spent nine seasons with Liverpool playing 396 times, winning two cups with the club.
Since leaving Merseyside he has played for Napoli, Bayern Munich and AC Milan; where he is currently contracted for another two years.
Reina made just 11 appearances for Milan last season and given his age it seems unlikely that they command a massive transfer fee.
It would certainly be a sentimental move should Liverpool opt to bring the likeable Spaniard back to Anfield in the summer.
Signing the experienced stopper wouldn’t be such a bad thing though. Alisson is firmly established as the club’s number one and signing Reina would give him some experienced competition.
His presence in the dressing room could be an asset too. Not many of the current Liverpool crop have experience of winning silverware during their careers. Reina does, however.
He is a born leader and a player who a lot of the younger players would look up to. Liverpool will get linked with lots of goalkeepers to replace Mignolet, but Reina would be ideal for the Reds.
