Don Hutchinson urges Liverpool to land £96m-rated Barcelona superstar

Ousmane Dembele could be on his way out of Barca this summer and Don Hutchinson wants the Reds to secure his services.

Former Liverpool man Don Hutchinson has proposed that Liverpool go and sign Barcelona misfit Ousmane Dembele during the summer transfer window.

The ex-midfielder took to Twitter to make the claim, with the French forward almost certain to leave the Nou Camp in the coming months.

Dembele has bagged 14 goals and claimed nine assists this season but hasn’t been a regular in the Barcelona team. He looks set to be offloaded in order to make way for a host of stellar signings this summer.

Hutchinson posted two tweets on Dembele. The first asking Liverpool to go and land the 22-year-old:

A second tweet shortly after came in response to a Liverpool supporter who questioned whether the Reds would pay £100 million for someone to ‘warm the bench’.

Hutchinson believes Jurgen Klopp needs better strength in depth and believes he would be a great signing for Liverpool:

It is reported by the Spanish newspaper, Sport, that Barcelona would consider selling Dembele if they receive £96 million for his services.

His departure would allow the Catalan giants to land a star recruit of their own, but it remains to be seen if anyone would take Barca up on their offer to sell.

TBR Verdict

Hutchinson makes a good point when he says he would be a great signing for Liverpool. Whether or not he represents good business at close to £100 million is another matter altogether, however.

Dembele didn’t exactly cover himself in glory when the two sides met in the Champions League semi-final. Indeed, if that was an audition for a Liverpool switch he shouldn’t be expecting a call back anytime soon.

At 22, however, he does boast a tremendous amount of potential. Hutchinson is right when he says that Liverpool can’t keep relying on their current front three and some competition would be healthy.

If the Reds can land the Frenchman it will certainly excite the supporters, but there is still a huge question mark over the valuation on top of the player’s head at the moment.
