Liverpool prodigy has broken the 40-goal barrier for the season, Klopp's got a future star on his hands - TBR View

Another Liverpool youth matchday, another goal haul for Reds prodigy Oakley Cannonier.

On Tuesday, hours before Jurgen Klopp’s charges tore Manchester United apart, the Liverpool U18s enjoyed a great runout of their own.

The young Reds ran out 5-1 winners over their Wolves counterparts in the U18 Premier League North.

And Cannonier took his goal tally for the season to a staggering 40 goals with a brace at Aggborough Stadium.

The first half saw four goals, with Luke Chambers scoring a penalty and Cannonier’s two goals setting Liverpool on their way.

However, Tyler Roberts pulled one back for the hosts before the break.

There was no danger of Liverpool relinquishing their lead though. Bobby Clark and Harvey Blair added to the Reds tally after the interval.

Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s charges are now seven points behind table-topping Manchester City with four rounds of fixtures remaining.

Klopp has a future star on his hands

Cannonier was once best known as the ball boy who ‘assisted’ Trent Alexander-Arnold for his legendary quick corner against Barcelona in the 2018-19 Champions League.

But now, the teenager is making a name for himself as a footballer, and has all the makings of a top player.

Fans have been raving about Cannonier all season, with some even suggesting he could be a futureFirmino replacement“.

This season, he has featured in the EFL Trophy and has made one Premier League 2 matchday squad.

And Klopp has already acknowledged Cannonier’s efforts by inviting him to train with the seniors.

According to The Athletic, the young striker impressed the Liverpool boss in those sessions.

There’s no doubt Cannonier will go up to the U23s next term.

And if he continues to shine, maybe there could even be an EFL loan on the cards in 2022-23.
