Liverpool have signed Federico Chiesa in a £10m move from Juventus – but another signing is now close to following the Italy international to Anfield.
After spending weeks as the only Premier League side not to make a signing, Liverpool have awoken in the transfer market, signing the Italian almost immediately after announcing the £30m arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia.
Now, another new face could soon join Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa at Liverpool…
Liverpool close to signing Cesar Huerta
A story from Kery Ruiz of DAZN now states that Liverpool are close to signing Cesar Huerta from UNAM Pumas.
This has come from out of nowhere – to say the least.
Ruiz claims that the Mexico international is “close to becoming a Liverpool player” – but stresses that the winger will not immediately link up with Arne Slot.
Instead, the plan is for Huerta – who Aston Villa wanted to sign – to go on loan to a Championship side initially, before joining up with Liverpool in the summer of 2025.
Mexican news outlet Soy Futbol have also commented on the situation, describing this as a “historic” sale for UNAM Pumas – albeit without mentioning any financial details, other than the fact he is valued at $10m (£7.6m) by the Liga MX outfit.

Huerta – who is 23 years of age – typically plays on the left wing for UNAM Pumas, where he has scored two goals in five Liga MX appearances so far this season.
The man from Guadalajara is also capable of playing on the right – making 12 appearances in that position throughout his career – in addition to outings as a striker and even on the right of defence.
Strange deal
Typically, these sort of deals, where a player is loaned elsewhere for 12 months, are reserved for very young talents – such as Endrick and Claudio Echeverri – giving them a chance to develop further before joining the senior setup.
However, Huerta will be 24 in December, which is three years older than Harvey Elliott, and also older than the likes of Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai, all of whom are considered senior players at Anfield.

Therefore, it feels odd that Liverpool would initially be loaning the Mexican out for a season.
Nevertheless, be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Liverpool are close to signing Huerta regardless, according to Ruiz.
