Liverpool: New left-back target; battle with Tottenham for striker; youngster returns from injury
Joel Matip has been lauded as one of the bargains of the summer after joining the Reds from Schalke on a free transfer, and it now looks as though Jurgen Klopp could look to repeat that by returning to Germany in an attempt to sign his former teammate Sead Kolasinac when his contract expires in the summer, claim Bild.
Klopp remains unconvinced by Alberto Moreno’s defensive abilities and the Serbian would represent a strong and reliable replacement given his impressive performances for Schalke, and would certainly come cheap with his deal set to run out in June.
The Express report that Liverpool will face a transfer battle with Spurs should they opt to make a move for Mali forward Moussa Marega. Signed by Porto in January and then loaned out in the summer, the 25-year-old has scored has so far scored ten goals in eight games in the Portuguese top flight this campaign.
Also known as “the terminator”, the strong and bulky centre forward has grown a reputation for battering defences throughout Portugal, but his £36 million buyout clause could prove an obstacle with Porto reluctant to allow him to leave only months after signing him. Crystal Palace, Stoke and Sunderland are also said to be interested.
Talented 19-year-old Sheyi Ojo has returned to training with the Liverpool first team after he picked up a stress fracture in his back during pre-season and has missed the last three months whilst recovering. Having spent the start of last season on loan at Wolves before breaking into the first team scene under Klopp, it was a frustrating blow for the left winger.
Ojo now has a challenge on his hands to regain fitness and gain an opportunity, which will most likely come in one of the cup competitions.
