Liverpool new-boy Adrian praises Reds backline, likely references Virgil van Dijk

The Spaniard has taken confidence from the backline he is now playing behind.

New Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has been talking about how he is settling into life at Anfield, as per the Daily Mirror.

The Spaniard was quick to praise the quality of his new team-mates, suggesting he was particularly impressed with Virgil van Dijk when he referred to ‘one of the best defenders in the world’.

He said: “It’s really easy to play with them in front of you because they were the best defenders in the Premier League (last season) and we have one of the best defenders in the world.

“Honestly, they defend everything like animals! For me as a goalkeeper, they make easy decisions. They help me a lot.”

TBR’s View – Liverpool provides a different challenge for Adrian

Lower down the Premier League, the challenge for goalkeepers is making many saves on a regular basis, and Adrian proved largely good at that when he was at West Ham.

At Liverpool and other big clubs, it’s more about focus, concentration and communication as well as being reliable in possession.

Adrian flunked that test against Southampton and although Liverpool still got the win, he will have found out that mistakes are far more magnified at Anfield.

Of course, as he says, he is protected by a better quality of defender – including van Dijk – but that didn’t do Loris Karius much good in the end and Adrian will need to step up if he proves to be a crucial part of Liverpool’s title chase.
