Liverpool won the Premier League at a canter, but it is vital the Reds strengthen to stay ahead of the competition.
The club have been sensational this year, and will lift their first league title for 30 years next Wednesday after their final home game of the season against Chelsea.
Talk has already turned to how the squad will look ahead of the 2020/21 season.
There had been particular focus around Timo Werner, but the German international has joined Chelsea.
It is understood Jurgen Klopp had wanted to bring him in, so perhaps the manager will seek alternatives to provide Roberto Firmino with some competition.
One name that has been mentioned in recent days is the rapidly developing Victor Osimhen of Lille.
The Nigerian striker hit 18 goals in 38 matches in 2019/20, catching the eye with his deadly finishing and blistering pace.
Reports (L’Equipe) are suggesting Napoli may be in pole position to land him in a €81 million/£74 million deal, but Liverpool surely have to make a fight of it.
TBR’s View – Osimhen would be great Werner alternative
Osimhen is extremely accomplished in front of goal for one still only 21 years of age.
The star is superb at springing the offside trap and very handy in one-on-one scenarios.
On multiple occasions in 2019/20, Osimhen showcased a brilliant ability to chip the goalkeeper, something that requires extremely bottle and maturity.
He’s also capable of running the channels like Werner.
Firmino remains idolised at Anfield, but his relatively low goal return of 11 in all competitions may suggest he’s ready for a challenge. That challenge won’t come in the form of Werner, but perhaps Osimhen is the next best alternative.
