The Sun claim that Jurgen Klopp is a real admirer of West Ham United midfielder Pedro Obiang, with a summer bid possible. The Spaniard had struggled to settle in London but finally seems to have reached his full potential and has shown quality and determination in a holding midfield role.
The 24-year-old scored his first goal of the season weeks ago against Southampton and has also made one assist, but the former Sampdoria man has shown what he could bring to the side defensively. The Hammers’ asking price of £18 million could be a stumbling block to any potential deal, though.
Klopp has also been busy trying to convince another man to make a move to Merseyside as he attempts to rejoin forces with his former colleague Andreas Schlumberger, a physio who he worked with at Borussia Dortmund. Bild claims that the Bayern Munich man wants to see out his contract, with two years to run, but could be convinced.
The pair worked together in Dortmund for a number of years, with Schlumberger departing the club when Klopp left in 2015, so with the Liverpool boss now keen on a reunion.
One man making the journey the other way, from Merseyside to Germany, is Dejan Lovren, as the Liverpool Echo report that he is being flown out to Germany to see a specialist regarding a knee injury which has kept him out of the last two fixtures and the squad training trip to La Manga in Spain.
The Croatian picked up the problem in the draw with Chelsea at Anfield and has not featured since, with key figures at the club now concerned by how serious the problem is looking, having initially been thought to be little more than a knock. With Joel Matip now fit, and Ragnar Klavan, Lucas Leiva and Joe Gomez available, there is cover, but Lovren had been an important player for Klopp.
