FSG may have dropped clanger by not taking Celtic star to Liverpool - TBR View

As the transfer window wound to a close, Liverpool owners FSG failed to pick up the phone and bolster Jurgen Klopp’s squad. Several miles south, Crystal Palace were landing a potential coup with the signing of Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard. The Liverpool hierarchy might have let the manager down.

The Eagles fought off plenty of competition to sign the French striker. He has been at Celtic since 2018 and has been superb in the Scottish Premiership. Edouard has cost Palace an initial £14 million, according to Sk Sports.

Liverpool not bolstering their forward options is perhaps odd. Divock Origi is out of favour, whilst Xherdan Shaqiri has joined Lyon. Harvey Elliott is back at the club but he’s been utilised in the middle of the park so far this season.

Roberto Firmino hobbled out of Saturday’s draw with Chelsea. Some fans anticipated that Liverpool would be forced into the market. That foray never transpired though and the Reds experienced a quiet transfer deadline day.

Why Are There No Openly Gay Male Footballers?

It’s understandable that Liverpool didn’t want to spend a fortune. They completed a big-money signing of Ibrahima Konate earlier in the summer and he proved to be their only signing.

But they should have strengthened their attack and Edouard would have been an ideal recruit to the Liverpool ranks.

Why should Liverpool have gone for Edouard?

It’s common knowledge that Liverpool won’t spend money for the sake of spending it. In January, however, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane will head off to the African Cup of Nations.

That could leave the Reds short and landing Edouard would have been a smart addition. He is only 23, has bags of big-game experience during his time playing in Europe at Celtic and he’s also lethal in front of goal.

In 179 appearances he scored 86 goals and claimed 39 assists. He’s also found the net 17 times in 14 outings for the France under-21 team.

Edouard boasts superb movement and he’d have been a wonderful addition to the Liverpool ranks, spearheading the team’s attack in Firmino’s absence.

FSG look to have dropped a clanger by not taking Edouard to Liverpool during the summer transfer window.
