Report: Liverpool have just missed out on signing ‘exceptional’ midfielder to Serie A giants

Liverpool won’t be signing PSG midfielder Leandro Paredes, with the Argentinian set to sign for Serie A giants Juventus instead.

According to Sky Sports, who quote South American outlet TyC, Paredes has agreed to join Juventus on an initial loan deal which could, in time, become a permanent £13m move to Turin.

It comes just a day after reports broke to suggest Liverpool were in the mix to sign Paredes. It was suggested that the Reds were considering offering Roberto Firmino in a straight swap for Paredes, who would have been an ideal stop gap for Liverpool and their midfield problems.

This week’s defeat at Manchester United has left the Reds open to questions about their strength in depth in the middle of the park. At Old Trafford, Jurgen Klopp had to play the evergreen James Milner in the middle, while the bench was predominantly made up of under-23s players.

However, it appears that Liverpool won’t be getting Paredes. Instead, it looks like being a case of back to the drawing board for Klopp and FSG, if they do indeed wish to sign a new midfielder.

TBR’s View: Liverpool Need To Act

The Reds are already miles behind City in the title race and they can’t really afford to go any further behind. Yes, when everyone is fit, the team is fine. But the likes of Thiago are consistently injured, meaning Jurgen Klopp might be able to justify one more top signing to the board.

Paredes would have been a nice option for the midfield at the moment, especially given he’s set to sign on loan with Juve.

Liverpool need to get someone in the door, though. They looked miles off it at United and it all came through the middle of the park really.
