Liverpool have a Dutch superstar in their ranks. Virgil van Dijk, the world’s most expensive defender at £75 million, is thriving at Anfield. However, another Dutch defender at the club could one day emulate such a transfer valuation if he continues on his current path.
In the summer, Liverpool snapped up Dutch youngster Ki-Jana Hoever from Ajax. Capable of playing anywhere along the back four, it was reported by the Liverpool Echo that Ajax were ‘devastated’ to lose the talented 16-year-old.
Now, Liverpool fans are seeing just why.
Hoever has been in fantastic form for the side’s youth teams and this week starred as Liverpool’s under-23s defeated Everton in the mini-derby.

The fact he is just a schoolboy playing against some much older talents did not seem to phase him. Liverpool under-23 boss Neil Critchley called the performance ‘unbelievable’ and it appears Liverpool have a future superstar on their hands.
The Dutch youth international may still be too young for the first-team but he can take inspiration from Trent Alexander-Arnold, whom Jurgen Klopp gave an early shot due to his talent. His future, however, appears to be as a centre-back. His strength, pace and ability on the ball make him the perfect modern-day central defender in the mould of Van Dijk or Joe Gomez.
If Hoever continues on this trajectory, he might be the next £75 million-rated Dutch defender at Liverpool.
