Former Liverpool forward Michael Owen believes that Reds midfielder Thiago Alcantara is Paul Scholes-like in the way he plays the game.
Thiago put in a good performance for Liverpool last night. The Reds saw off RB Leipzig in the Champions League to put to bed their poor run of form lately and give themselves a sound advantage for the second leg.

The performance of Thiago will have been pleasing for Jurgen Klopp. Amidst the Reds’ struggles, the Spaniard has come in for some criticism from some pundits and fans.
But speaking before the game last night, both Michael Owen and Rio Ferdinand lauded Thiago, before being proven correct over the 90 minutes that were to follow.
“He can do things… in fact he’s the most unique player in the Premier League. There’s nobody like him,” Owen told BT Sport.
“The closest is probably Paul Scholes – the way he gives the eyes. But when you look at him, does he assist many? Not really, all his good passes are from a deep position. I want to judge him when the team are back playing the best they can. It’s been a difficult start for him.”

Being a striker, Owen will know all about the importance of having quality in midfield behind you. And Ferdinand, formerly of Manchester United himself, agreed with Owen’s assessement.
“I love him. I think he’s a great player. He might not necessarily play that final pass, the pre-assist. He’s the one that plays that ball to get somebody in,” Ferdinand commented.
TBR View: Thiago beginning to tick for Liverpool? Reds fans will hope so
Last night was the strongest indication yet that Thiago is beginning to get it right in the Red of Liverpool.
Key passes, composure, and a clear knowledge of how to manage a big European tie, this was exactly why Jurgen Klopp was so keen to bring in the Spanish star.
Hopefully he and Liverpool can kick on from here and build on what was a fine performance by the Reds midfielder.
