Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum earned plaudits aplenty for his latest international display for the Netherlands.

The Reds ace scored a brace in Sunday’s Nations League meeting over Bosnia & Herzegovina in Amsterdam, helping the Oranje to a 3-1 win.

Wijnaldum broke the deadlock after just six minutes, the Dutch captain wrapping up a neat passing move by sweeping home Denzel Dumfries’s centre.

He then doubled his tally from close range eight minutes later, getting the final touch to bundle home Steven Berghuis’s header across goal following a swift break.

Memphis Depay made it three after the break from another Dumfries delivery, before Bosnia substitute Smail Prevljak netted what turned out to be a consolation on 63 minutes.

Football Oranje gave Wijnaldum an 8 out of 10 rating and wrote: “Pushed forward in a more attacking position and got two goals in the opening fifteen minutes.

“Always reliable in Oranje and he got Netherlands on their way to victory tonight.

“A good performance from the Liverpool man, who also avoided a yellow which would have seen him suspended for the clash against Poland.”

The rating is a big improvement on some of his prior assessments by the outlet over the past few Netherlands games.

Against Spain, Wijnaldum got 6 out of 10, while in the last international break, his display against Italy earned him just 5 out of 10 as he was deemed “invisible and sloppy with the ball”.

TBR View:

Wijnaldum had been struggling for form for a while, and his disappointing display against Manchester City before the international break would surely have been a cause for concern for Jurgen Klopp.

However, a decent display against Spain followed by a superb performance against Bosnia, complete with two early goals, is a big boost for Wijnaldum and hopefully will be a turning point for him.
