Liverpool midfielder left seriously impressed by Everton star's international display last night

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones was impressed by Everton’s Anthony Gordon last night as he won man of the match for England U21s.

The Young Lions sealed their place at the European Championship with a 3-0 win over Albania, in which Folarin Balogun scored twice.

It was Gordon who stood out though and he scooped the man of the match award to follow on from an impressive season for Everton.

This modern England setup is not ruled by club cliques and rivals at Premier League level come together as one at senior and youth level.

Gordon took to Instagram to celebrate his personal achievement but also acknowledge that qualification has been sealed.

The tournament will be co-hosted by Romania and Georgia and will run between 9 June and 2 July 2023.

Gordon will hope to go there on the back of another season where he has made himself even more important to Frank Lampard at Goodison Park.

Jones will be looking for another campaign of improvement at Anfield, with the two coming together to help the Young Lions clinch glory.

He was among the players congratulating Gordon on a good night’s work as Lee Carsley’s men got the job done professionally.

Last month, it was reported that Gordon has transfer interest from Spurs but he has come through the ranks at Goodison and is so important moving forward.

Next up for Gordon and Jones is an away game against Kosovo on Friday night before hosting Slovenia in Huddersfield three days later.
